The difficulties individuals have in modifying or correcting information on their Aadhaar card have been acknowledged by the Indian government. A common service center, also known as a village level entrepreneur, was established by the government to help address this issue. Currently operating as the CSC e-Governance Services India Limited, or CSC SPV, Daal, the Aadhaar card center has been given the all-clear to assist with Aadhaar data enrolment and updating
In the early stages, the government intends to open about 20,000 Aadhaar Update Centers using CSC VLEs. The primary objective of this project is to boost connectivity to the Aadhaar updating process, particularly for those living in rural areas. "To make Aadhaar update easier, the UIDAI has permitted CSCs that are designated as BCs (Banking Correspondents) to supply Aadhaar update services," said Union Telecom, MEITY, and Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad. Now, over 20,000 of these CSCs will be able to deliver that service."
Because this new service would bring Aadhaar services closer to home, rural areas will greatly benefit. The Minister stressed how crucial it is that CSC VLEs begin working on the Aadhaar upgrade in accordance with UIDAI guidelines. With this change, a lot of people living in rural areas would be able to conveniently obtain Aadhaar services without having to go far.
The UIDAI has laid down a target of June for the launch of Aadhaar update services for the citizens of India. This timeline enables CSCs who already have banking facilities to improve its structure and gain the required permits. Dinesh Tyagi, CEO of Common Service Centre, has urged all Banking Correspondents to complete the required technical and other upgrades as specified by the UIDAI to start Aadhaar update services as soon as possible.
Services offered under Aadhaar through the CSC was suspended in December 2018 consequent to the apex court direction. Since then, there has been a strong demand from VLEs running over 3 logits for such opportunities to be offered to their students. 5 lakh CSCs may restart the Aadhaar enrolment services soon. These VLEs had previously invested in Aadhaar kits and trained personnel for the task. Before the discontinuation, CSCs had generated 20 crore Aadhaar cards, demonstrating their capability and the high demand for their services.
Besides the 20,000 Banking Correspondents, presently more than thirty thousand CSCs are providing banking services through AePS that is Aadhaar enabled payment system. Another strategy is the AePS where through their Aadhaar numbers, people are able to carry out banking transactions. It is very advantageous for farmers, account holders of the Jan Dhan, pensioners, and beneficiaries of Ujwala; withdraw their money through DBT provided by the government. According to Tyagi, about 1.2 lakh AePS transactions worth Rs 20 crore are conducted daily, highlighting the significant role CSCs play in the financial inclusion of rural populations.
